Escalator Performance

     The core part of the escalator is two chains that rotate around two pairs of gears. At the top of the escalator, there is a motor drive gear to rotate the chain. A typical escalator uses a 100-horsepower engine to rotate gears. The engine and chain systems are installed in the frame, which refers to the metal structure extending between the two floors.Escalator
     Unlike a conveyor belt moving a plane, the chain moves in a set of steps. The most interesting part of escalators is the way these steps move. When the chain moves, the steps remain horizontal. At the top and bottom of the escalator, the steps fold each other to form a platform. This makes the upper and lower escalators easier. In the following illustration, you can see the whole process of the elevator running. Each step on the escalator has two sets of wheels, which rotate along two separate tracks. The upper device (the wheel near the top of the step) is connected with the rotating chain and is pulled by the drive gear located at the top of the escalator.      The two tracks are separated from each other to keep each step level. At the top and bottom of the escalator, the track is horizontally positioned to flatten the steps. There is a series of grooves inside each step to be connected with the two steps before and after the flattening process. The speed range of the escalator is from 27 m/min to 55 m/min. An escalator with a moving speed of 44 m/min can carry more than 10,000 people in an hour, much more than the standard lift.Escalator
     In addition to turning the main chain ring, the motor in the escalator can also move the armrest. The handrail is just a rubber conveyor that loops round a series of wheels. The conveyor belt is precisely configured so that it is exactly the same as the moving speed of the steps, allowing the ride to feel smooth. The escalator system does not lift people up to dozens of floors like elevators, but it is very useful for short distances. This is because of the high load rate of the escalator. When the elevator is full, it must wait until it arrives at the appointed floor and the other person can get on the elevator. And on the escalator, as long as one person reaches the upper level, it will make room for the others.Escalator
